Because I spent so much time trying to make the Business Administration major work for me, I decided that letting all of the money and time put into the degree go to waste was the wrong thing to do. I therefore decided to take two or three more courses pertaining to Business Administration in order to achieve a minor in the field. Within those few classes required was a Marketing course.
What I thought would be dreadful, turned into an exciting (best) first day of class when I walked into MKTG 3000 in the Fall of 2018. I guess that has a lot to do with the professor and how enthusiastic she was to teach her students then in’s and outs of marketing. But the material that she was presenting seemed thrilling and interesting.
As the semester took off, I found myself putting pieces together in regard to my Business minor and English major. I enjoyed the idea of telling a story and capturing an audience, at the right place and time with the right product and promotion (the four P’s).
“There are three skills acquired by English majors who find themselves perusing a career in Marketing
1. The ability to creatively analyze data
2. The ability to graciously empathize with consumers
3. The ability to clearly communicate to peers”
(Cheney)
As an English major, I know that each of those skills are engraved into students, like me, as they are traveling through the discipline.
